ahhhhhhhh! My wrist hurts like mad from all the typing I did yest. I should say all the typing I did from my VERY unergonomic desk. haha. Ouch. But I just got inspired, so here I am, grinning and bearing it.

I am now officially going through books like water, which is NOT cheap here. I broke down and bought, "Holy Cow" By Sarah MacDonald. It is much better than I thought. She writes in a fluid, brutally honest, and intensely personal way that makes the book just soar by. I love it. 1 day and I am 1/2 way through the book. Bad for my pocket book, good for my brain.

Here is one paragraph I particularly relate to:

(page 81)

"I have almost died physically and now I feel I'm dying spiritually. I've crashed into another wall of bad karma and in the process lost my lightness of being. I miss silence, space, and solitude, the luxuries of my country with its empty lands and calm cities."
(she is from Sydney, Australia)

As for me, the weekend has been pretty uneventful really, other than the crazy typoon. Still waiting on news reports as to the damage of it all.

I got this appauling almost-long mullet looking, christmas tree shaped haircut a few weeks ago in Taipei. I have been trying to just pull my hair up and ignore the damage. But it was the last thing that I had that made me feel attractive.

My hair was getting quite long, and the curls were going mad, but in a settled kind of way. Last night I could not ignore it anymore. I had to chop off the bottom portion of the x-mas tree to make some respectable sense of my hair. And now I am back to the same length as when I arrived here 8 months ago. Very symbolic of my (lack of) progress in trying to find a home and career. And just as maddening.

Post-Taiwan idea of the week (or should I say day), going back to school in San Fran and studying Sociology. Classes start 3 days before I leave here, but who does any work the first week of classes. I am not settled on any one idea yet. Still applying for teaching jobs (but very selectively), contacted my old temp agency in SF, contacted a hostel in Australia for casual work, etc, etc. Putting the vibes out there and seeing what happens. I really want to be in an English speaking country for awhile, but we'll see what the stars have in store for me.

Oh, and I added more T-shirts to our MERCHANDISE section, see above link. Think you will find them quite funny. They are on sale now, cheap as shit, cause I am moving and cant be bothered to carry them with me whereever I go. So, please buy em up so they can be useful cloth. Thanks.
