Here is a post from the Yahoo! Tainan group site from June 15, 2004.(No, it is not from me.) This is a classified-ish posting website that helps English speaking foreigners. Most of the users are ESL teachers.

Subject: New poll for Tainan_bulletin

Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the

Tainan_bulletin group:

I may create a website for expats that

are living in Tainan. The main focus

behind the website would be to help

protect fellow foreigners from getting

cheated or ripped off by certain

businesses, schools agents etc. For

example: A new teacher could arrive and

before signing a contract with FUDA

could read posts from other people

warning them to run like hell. The

system here is rarely helpful and a lot

of people seem to get screwed out of

money all the time. So this could maybe

help- kind of like a "Tainan Business

Review." Is this a good idea?- why or

why not?

(the rest of the post states the poll's options. Check out the link if you want to read more.)

Today, there was this post in response to the previous one:

You are destroying the fame of our school-- Fu Da. If you don't apologize in three days, we will report this article to the Forgien Affairs Police of Tainan. Please do not against the law here in Taiwan. What you said "signing a contract with FUDA could read posts from other people warning them to run like hell. The system here is rarely helpful and a lot of people seem to get screwed out of money all the time." Are you sure by that? From: Fu Da

Oh my! Cant we all just get along! I know it was probably NOT a good idea for them to have mentioned a school specifically in their post, but come on! Now we cant even vent and share info online without worrying about being reported to the police. Obviously the poster had a hard time with this school, and WHY exactly is it illegal for them to have said so?

I dont know how much speaking freedom is allowed here, but if anyone outside the country knows, by all means contact me and give me details. I dont know the poster personally, but will pass on the legalities to them (If they even want it. I am assuming that they will not apologize, or should I say hoping that they wont. I think the reply/threat is an insult.)

This whole thing makes me hang my head and sets me off towards my calendar where I recount the number of days I have left here.

I had loads of personal stuff that happened today, but I want this post to stand alone.
